The object here was to attract women to a store opening. I
suspect most moms fantasize about being glamorous and graceful
throughout their pregnancy, so I set that as a goal. Little memories
just seem to pop up sometimes: many years ago, I grabbed our
rottweiler before he knocked over a kid. The kid's dad expressed
amazement at my speed in attacking the deed. I’d like to believe I
was also graceful, because I sure wasn’t graceful when I delivered
WP a few hours later nor was I graceful when I beat that rat to
death with a cast iron skillet...
But I digress. Back to the design: I invented the mom silhouette and
gesture. The idea for incorporating the arm into the hair using the
hair as a banner evolved from a series of sketches, but its genesis
was a photo of a big-headed country singer I had seen in the paper
that day. I kept reworking the shapes and their relationships with
each other until my eye was satisfied. I modeled the figure a little
just because I liked it better than a flat surface, but employed a
limited palette so as not to draw attention from the message.
